Why Bad Things Happen To Good People?
Written for those who have nothing to do but question God. (Nov. 2005)
In the United States many people are asking, why God allow hurricanes to enter the midst of good people and destroy their homes and property right down to causing death and destruction to already poor people? For those who are far from God and decided to ask such a question, let me say this. God is God. He is the creator and maker of this world and, yes, you and I. And since he holds both life and death in his hands, I believe this qualify him to do what ever when ever he want to do to you and his creation. People he is God. The scripture reads like this, Jeremiah 18:3-6 reads,
Then I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he wrought (did) a work on the wheels, and the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again an other vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the work of the Lord came to me saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, o house of Israel.
What does this mean? It means, you don't bite the hand that feeds you. It means weakling like us who cannot stand against a simple tornado should be careful how we curse the storm. It means that all our lives are in the hands of God. We are fed by him. We breath his air. We drink his water. Neither of these can we make. So, it means with out these we die. But, because God allow us to eat his animals, vegetables and fruit creations, to drink his water and breath his air, then this qualify him as God and provider. We depend on him. What does this really mean. It means,"KEEP YOUR BIG MOUTH SHUT!!"
For some, these little statements are not enough, so let me tell you what you really don't want to hear. First of all it concerns a "big" thing call "sin". I say a big "thing", but most Americans does not consider themselves as sinners nor do they want any one else to tell them about their way of living. But sin is a big thing. Ezekiel 18:4
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Now lets take a look at sin. What is Sin? Sin is a total disregard for God and his standards of obedience. 1 Corinthians 6:9 says Sin is lust, hate, evil, adultery, fornication, pornography, cursing, non Christian music, alcohol, drugs, envy, strife, backbitten and etc. Sin is what the United States is and the rest of the world represent. The majority is sinful. Yet, they think themselves righteous and many does not see righteous living today as God sees it.
God said it must be. There are a very few people in the world serving God. There are many pretending to serve God, but their views and understanding of God is clouded by their worldly desires and achievements (sin). The scripture goes on to say "that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God".
But what does this mean? Does this means that the Katrina 2005 hurricane victims were more sinful than any body else? No! Do this means that the states that were affected was any more sinful than the rest of the states? No! What about other countries that are affected? No! The problem man has with storms, earthquakes, and death is that he cannot control the out come. Man does not look at disasters as warning to small man that there is a God more powerful than himself, but only as some thing he wish he could control.
Being righteous one can make better decisions about his out come. The sinful can do the same, however, the final out come in life's end is totally different. Hell is for the wicked and heaven is for the righteous.
Matthew 24:8 states disasters
"are the beginning of sorrows".
Rather than cursing God, why not see the the strength and power of God, and realized their is a higher power controlling all.
I want to get back to control and power.
Bad things are not just happening to good people. They are happening to bad people equally. You and your lost is no worst that another's lost. We all grieve in our own way. Yet, a righteous man involve a creator God as "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away'. The bad or the unlearn and non server quickly turn on God and curse him with no respect of power. Knowing this is because the person has never had a relationship with Christ. He or she has always considered themselves as being in charge of their own lives and not God, even though they played the role as a Christian.
Simply put! You cannot control your situation so you hate God because you cannot control him. You hate sickness and death because you cannot control it. You want to be God right hear and now. But it will never happen.
Concerning those hanging out at churches, if you are thinking this way, then you should get saved also. What are you doing so great for God that you can't suffer or just plain die. All of the disciples suffered in some way or another and died. They are dead! Even Jesus, a perfect man, suffered and died. What make you think you're better or your love one is better than Christ and his disciples.
Why bad things happen to good people?
It's because we have too! Some sooner than others. In Genesis it reads:
"In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return:
Our bodies are of dirt. We were created to serve and populate the earth then die. All souls must die. Since we are physical beings, we are subject to the all things of this world. This includes all that goes on in it. living in a world ruled by Satan has its draw backs. Sickness and diseases, sorrow, pain, heart aches, trials and tribulation to death, its all part of living in a mortal body where sin abide in the world.
Most people want to live and never die. They, as I have already stated, want power to never have to suffer at all, but rather live their lives as gods. Those who ask the question, "Why God let this or that happen" should rethink who they are. Immortality is given to the one who runs the race and finishes. Matthew 24:13 reads, "He that endures unto the end, the same shall be saved". You can't question God.
I'll end with this. No true saint should ever ask the question ,"why do bad things happen to good people"? Leave this to the unbelievers.
Oh! And by the way. Through sin bring diseases and sicknesses we die from. They are created and brought on by us. By thousand of years of sin. Of bad foods, water, sexual filthiness and tests we experiment with. Passing diseases and germs through generations after generations. We refuse to change. This is not God's fault that we die or others die from our actions. It's your fault. It's our fault.
So, the next time you lose a love one, even a child or baby to sickness or accidents and want to point your finger at who is the cause. Look all around you at life. Then take a look in the mirror. We are the cause. Think about it!
